Waiting

The rain poured down relentlessly. It hammered onto my me, soaking me to the bone. And still I sat. Waiting. He would come. He promised. The wind howled and thunder cracked and still I waited. He’s never broken his promise before, I doubted he would start now. The rain let up, but the storm still raged and lightning lit up the sky.

I stayed where I was and waited even when the lightning came too close. It wasn’t long before the storm stopped altogether. Almost like it knew it couldn’t scare me. That I wouldn’t give up. The sky turned grey as the storm clouds passed and new ones came to take their place. The sun was still hidden behind clouds and I stared up at them knowing what it was they predicted.

And soon enough the snow began to fall. It started as a light, soft powder that fell slowly blanketing the world in white. But of course that couldn’t last. Soon it was a full blown blizzard that threatened to bury me in snow. Still I did not waver. He said he would meet me here so here I shall wait.

And then it happened. The snow stopped, the clouds disappeared and the sun came out, shining down on me. The snow around me melted turning the world green again.

I smiled and watched. Flowers bloomed before my eyes, and from the trees behind them I saw him coming. I stood to meet him. I watched as he came closer and closer waiting for him to reach me. And before I knew it I was being spun around in his arms.
